I did have that problem (lots of overlapping stars) when I had
different versions of Guide in different directories. I reinstalled
everythingh into one directory, and it went away; but it must have been
something to do with not finding a file that should have been there I
guess. Now, just starting it without the CD brings up the message to try
again, and it refuses to start (which is the way that it is normally)
