V1280 Sco hasn't been added to 'iii.dat' yet. (The file appears to
be updated on some irregular schedule.) Can you 'go to' V1279 Sco?
That one _is_ there, and should work.

Just checked the galactic nova .TDF, and all appeared fine. Then
I checked the file on the Web site; it was a version from about three
weeks ago. I just replaced it with the current one; if you grab

http://www.projectpluto.com/galnovae.zip

then the new object should appear. Thanks for mentioning this.

Thanks also for the pointer on the AAVSO chart. Looks as if Mike
Simonsen took the Guide chart as a base and added comparison star
magnitudes and such. (In theory, it'd be nice to have the AAVSO
comparison magnitudes as a user-added dataset... in practice, it
would be one heck of a big job!)
