FYI too...
GO TO TDF Galactic Nova and enter
N Con YYYY
and you got to any nova going
so
N Sco 2007
will do the same.
For years with more than one,
N Con yyyy/n
eg
n sgr 2002/1
or
n sgr 2002/2
etc is the sin tax (assuming more than one in Sagittarius that year,
which I can't be bothered to look up).
Note that it's case independent.
I stopped updating this file a time ago, but recently updated to
current date and passed them on.
Anyone who has iauc or aavso regular bulletings, or even reads aavso
emails or vsnet emails, can readily update the GALNOVAE.DAT file every
time there's a new nova (that well known tautology).
The syntax is easy enough to figure out from those already in, and
basically you ony need the name and coords, you don't have to fill in
the other bits for it to work, and it draws a grey triangle because
it's not always certain what mag a nova is, or what passband, etc, so
even if there is no mag data (which can still be entered) it can be seen.
Within an instant of a set of coords being issued the galnovae.dat
file anyone keeps can be updated, though you've to watch that when you
insert the info via a text editor that you place it in RA sorted order.
I'll probably get bored with astro stuff again soon, so that file will
stop being updated again. If Guide users want to forward quality
coords, and max/discovery mag to the list when new ones blow up, it
might be of use, anyone interested can then update their file whenever.
The original source file is an extension of Duerbeck's tables,
available via CDS, but they only went up to 1987, I'd tried to stick
in every new nova since then when I did it a few years since, and then
kept it updated for a few years.
Again: it's a base/core dataset, it only needs GOTO TDF Galactic Novae
to go to any nova, and can readily and easily be updated in
galnovae.dat with new coords whenever a new object blows, or even old
data amended if folk want, the TDF stands as is, folk only need to
append/amend/addend data. Better than having a tdf per nova.
Cheers
John
