I'm going to assume you've got ucac2 on your hard drive, and are
talking about that one, as ucac2 via vizier doesn't look to draw
anything by default from what I've just examined in the latest
gsc22.tdf, which looks after ucac2 via vizier display

Load UCAC2.tdf into a text editor, this is the one that looks after
ucac2 from hard disk and/or CDROM display

near the bottom you'll find something like this

type 6
type sC974b00;m-20,-10;l-10,-5;m20,-10;l10,-5;m0,25;l0,13;
;type sCffaa55;m0,-20;l11,16;l-18,-6;l18,-6;l-11,16;l0,-20;

for the second line of "type" put a semicolon in front

type 6

and save ucac2.tdf back to the guide directory

now UCAC2 objects will only appear as stars, via the

type 6

you can take an ucac2.tdf backup first if you want, but the original
ucac2.tdf is still in Guide8.zip you've just updated from.


and if you're very fussy and don't even want coloured ucac2 stars,
then put a semicolon in front of this line to get white only ones

photo J:127,5 H:134,5 K:141,5

that's nearish the top.
