Not directly applicable to the update, but I notice Guide nowadays has
half a dozen or so email links for variables in More Info, to things
like aavso charts etc, and simbad.
Well, here's the template for the GCVS themselves
http://www.sai.msu.su/groups/cluster/gcvs/cgi-bin/search.cgi?search=SS+Cyg
only trouble being that despite it being a simple setup, it fails if
any spaces are passed, it being the only HTTP GET url I know that
thinks trailing spaces are characters, so Guide would have to strip
the before making the search part.
Other than that, it gives the full and uptodate details, moreso by far
than simbad or elsewhere.
They've got all the new namelists hooked into it now, too, eg
http://www.sai.msu.su/groups/cluster/gcvs/cgi-bin/search.cgi?search=V2362+Cyg
and the tin tacks (syntax) for the NSV is
http://www.sai.msu.su/groups/cluster/gcvs/cgi-bin/search.cgi?search=NSV+00001
but
http://www.sai.msu.su/groups/cluster/gcvs/cgi-bin/search.cgi?search=NSV+1
also seems to work, so the zero padding likely isn't essential, but
will work if easiest to handle.
This syntax and service has remained constant and set in its syntax
and invocation for about two or three years now.
Cheers
John
