Hi Alan,
Something else I should have mentioned: you can fire up Find_Orb
and load up the same NEOCP ephemerides that Guide displays, and
Find_Orb will determine an orbit from the ephemeris, just as if it was
observational data. See
http://www.projectpluto.com/find_orb.htm#neocp
for details on this.
Once you've gotten an orbit, you can fire up Guide, click on
Extras... Add MPC Comets/Asteroids, and scroll to the bottom to find
the option to load elements from a file. Click on this, and select the
file 'elements.txt'. (This contains the elements for the last object
analyzed by Find_Orb.) The NEOCP object will appear as an asteroid.
This has the advantage of allowing you to show the object's motion
at times other than those given by the ephemerides. It has the
disadvantage that you have to load each object into Find_Orb, solve for
an orbit, switch to Guide, and import the elements. That could drive
you crazy, if there were lots of objects. I'm working on that problem.
