Oops... you're right. I think I see what's going on here. I
switched a while back to a much more sophisticated, but trickier, way
of computing refraction, and it has problems in this area. Don't quite
see how to fix it yet, but it does need to be fixed.

I've been known to set an altitude of 400 km; at that point,
you're far enough away from the ground so that Guide shows the Earth as
a bitmapped object, and I can look "down" and see the northeastern US
and southeastern Canada spread out below. (Similarly if my "home
planet" is an artificial satellite.) You and I are probably not alone
in doing such things.
