RE: [guide-user] DSS images: fixed Guide

Hi Bill

Just to confirm that your last updated get_DSS.exe, is run without
detectable problem in my Intel P4 2.4K W_XP.
Even my reported problem of the .exe piled up in the Task manager is gone.
Tks for your great job again

Subject: Re: [guide-user] DSS images: fixed Guide

Hi Bertrand, all

I've just posted a version with the DSS fix, as well as a fix for
downloading star catalogue data. This is all at

http://www.projectpluto.com/new.htm

Now, I can't say that I am 100% certain about the DSS fix. I'm
able to get DSS just fine on my machine and a test machine. But some of
the comments that were made about the problem have me scratching my head
and wondering if maybe there's one more bug out there that I'm not
getting. If you still don't get DSS downloads with the new version,
please let me know.

Some people started seeing a problem, some time ago, with VizieR
downloads of B1.0, 2MASS, and UCAC-2 data (in Extras... Get Star
Catalog Data). Turns out that VizieR has modified the format in which
data is provided. I've made suitable changes to handle this.

(Be warned: this is a language-dependent fix, and so far, I've
only fixed the English file! So if you run Guide in Italian or Spanish,
star catalog downloads will still be wrong. I'll fix the relevant
files, 'gsc22.idf' and 'gsc22.sdf', soon.)

One good thing about this change, anyway: you now get a progress
report for downloads of star catalog data. I expect to extend this
change to DSS downloads, too. I _may_ be able to guesstimate the
download sizes (right now, all it tells you is how many bytes have been
downloaded.)
