I'm looking into it, but surely the magnitude of 39.9 for the magnitude of
Component E is in error. No conceivable instrument could detect something
that faint.

Subject: [guide-user] Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann
Guide Users,
I found and downloaded the file
comet 73P elements in 2006.txt (not 73Pfragments,txt).
It consists of 3 sets of elements:
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 B
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 C
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 E
I also located
73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann
At
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/Ephemerides/
comets/0073P.html.
The Guide database also includes
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 (73P).
In Guide on 2006 April 1.0, these 5 sets
plot separately, along a 14-degree SE-NW arc in Bootes.
(P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 (29P) and
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 2 (31P) from the Guide database
are different comets in different parts of the sky.)
The magnitudes are
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 B - 12.7
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 C - 7.6
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 E - 39.9
73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann at - 10.2 *
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 (73P) - 10.1
* after setting H = 11.0 according to recent magnitude estimates for the
brightest component, C.
I had supposed that 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann was component C, but it
plots differently from
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 C. Are they the same (with older elements for
P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 C), or is 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann a different
fragment (perhaps A)?
Can someone straighten this out?
