Just started looking into this. I'm seeing the same behavior.

Guide uses two different files for plotting deep-sky objects and
variables. One file is optimized for plotting large-field charts; the
other, for small-field charts. The switchover point is (by default) at
about 7.5 degrees. So the oddity is probably related to this. I'll see
what I can dig out.

If anyone spots other instances of this sort of misbehavior, please
let me know. (And general comments about bugs in the update would be
most welcome. I've gotten a few, mostly via private e-mail, and am
stomping bugs almost as rapidly as they're mentioned. Not quite, but
I'm getting there.)
