Not sure why just the bright asteroids have gone, sounds as though
something is corrupted.

What I would do is download Mpcorbcr.zip from the Minor Planet Centre,
and unzip it into your Guide directory. That gives every asteroid known,
and is updated every day. Guide will automatically use this file then.
If you are interested in Unusual asteroids.. PHA's Amor's etc. then you
can use Extras, Add Mpc asteroids within Guide. That will update all of
these objects
