[guide-user] Tales of the @
James Ellis Mar 25, 2000
Hi All
For those who want to know, I had a go at testing a Nex5 with Guide7 today.
Only had an hour or so to try it out as I was pushed for time.
Hooked up the cable as stated in the manual and plugged into COM1.
Turned on the scope, did an auto align, it selected Rigel as my final
alignment star. I was doing this during the day so it didn't really matter
how close it was. I then put it into RS232 mode.
Booted up Guide, selected Com1 (the only one on the PC) , NexStar then
scope pad and.....nothing. I tried the slew commands and got position
unread returned. I am guessing this is the @ not returning? The telescope
was slewing fine via the hand controller.
I rechecked the cabling, it was wired by the Electronics workshop next
door, and all was in order ie right cables going to pins.
The next time I will be able to have a go at this is Thursday. I will also
email Celestron Tech. then to see if they have some answers.
I will ask them what the port settings have to be as it is not very clear
from the manual. It states that the port should be set to "9600 bit/sec ,
No parity and stop bit.." nothing about flow control or data bits. I know
for the Ultima 2000, the port should be set to 8bits and no flow control.
Till then
James
