As Ben pointed out, Sirius (and Polaris) are orbital binaries.
You're seeing the white dwarf companion to Sirius, and the "normal
star" companion to Polaris.

But as mentioned in my earlier e-mail, there are positional
discrepancies due to proper motion. The display of stars is exact
to the precision of the Hipparcos and Tycho-2 catalogs, but some
of the "go to" options are not quite so exact.
