Reverse Sensing of Encoders
R Shapp Sep 8, 2005
Hi Bill,
This is to request an enhancement of Guide's handling of encoder resolution
calibrations for the Micro-Guider 5. Because of the physical mounting of the
brackets which hold the encoders on our 26-inch telescope, the encoders turn
in a direction opposite from what Guide expects. We tried replacing the
encoder calibration values with negative numbers, but, although Guide does
accept the negative values, it doesn't respond to them. Instead, Guide acts
like a com port has been established, but movement of the telescope doesn't
result in any movement of the cursor on the computer display. Removing the
minus sign on the resolution values does allow movement of the cursor, but it
moves in a direction opposite from actual scope movement.
I notice that Earth Centered Universe provides a check box for both RA and Dec
which reverses the sensing of encoder signals. Section 6.1.2 of the ECU user
manual explains that the encoder installations on some telescopes require
reverse sensing.
My request is that you modify Guide to permit reverse sensing either by use of
negative calibration values or by use of a check box.
My hope is that this would be an easy modification.
We are using the 23 February 2005 version of Guide 8.
Thank you for your consideration.
