It is only critical when calculating a ground position/track for things
such as transit on the Sun, Moon and so on. The largest effect or error
would be for a transit low on the horizon. For higher elevation
transits, even 100 meters would not move your track very much. Sites on
the Internet are available to give you the GEOID required for your
location. I would correct the altitude in the location window as
appropriate for your location.
