This is reasonably easy to get around:

Basically, the Gemini is very LX-200-like in almost all respects, except
one: when you tell it to slew the scope, it has to pause quite a while to
do the math. Guide expects a somewhat faster reply, gets confused, and
produces the bogus message you saw. Tell Guide to be more patient (how to
do this is described at the above link), and it'll get the right replies
from the Gemini and won't generate false messages.
