Um. That looks _very_ odd... two questions leap to mind:

Does it also misbehave when the first Guide CD is in the drive? If so,
then I'd assume that some file that ought to have been copied over, wasn't.
(But with the CD in the drive, Guide would look for that file, find it,
and behave correctly... at least, until you pulled the CD back out!)

Second question: could you please e-mail me the file 'startup.mar'
from your Guide folder? This contains (among other things) settings
concerning what has been copied to the hard drive, plus other settings
that probably aren't relevant but might explain why you're seeing this
misbehavior.
