Refraction and horizon
Denis May 22, 2005
I am a little confused or maybe I am not seeing the reason for the
refraction mode found in the location window. If I change humidity,
temperature or pressure, the horizon moves up or down as needed. If i
change the refraction setting, the horizon does not move but the cursor
altitude changes to reflect the selection. What does not make sense is
the following, find a Sun rise time and set the view for the time found,
change any of the temperature, pressure and humidity selections and the
position of the horizon against the stars changes but the refraction
selection does not only its cursor altitude.
As far as I am aware, refraction makes object which should be below the
horizon now appear above the horizon. I understand the process and this
is a simple way to express it. Instead of changing the cursor's
altitude, the horizon sky position should change. If I located the
cursor on the horizon line, I should read zero with not refraction
selected and the humidity, pressure and temperature should not be a
factor. When refraction is selected, the cursor on the horizon line
should show the effects and indicate that refraction is applied.
Am I on the right track or did I miss something in the process?
BTW, I am using the test file, 28 Apr 2005
