Hi Bill,
No need to say more. I dug into probes.dat and after some head
scratching and initial frustration I got it to work. The format of the
file is straighforward enough. First I had a too long step size (60
minutes) and that caused some wild jumps in the path of Rosetta.
Grabbing new elements at 5-minutes intervals from JPL took care of the
jumps.
However, there seems to be a bug in animation. Animating with lock on
Rosetta starts OK but the center of the screen drifts gradually away
from Rosetta's symbol. If I make a trail it also separates from
Rosetta's actual path. Looks like animation doesn't switch elements as
time proceeds. Animating in proper motion or horizon mode is working
fine, but I suspect that ephemeris generation is not good.
Where does the magnitude come from? Changing the parameters in
probes.dat has no effect.
