Editing the b10.dat doesn't work so well for me. I usually leave b1.0
turned off, but even so I have to purge the file from time to time to
keep the computer running at a reasonable rate. That is why I was
thinking of a separate file.

So what methods are you discussing? Automated I would think. Looking
closely at one example in the b1.0, NGC1273, there are plotted over 20
stars below mag 20 on top of the galaxy. By my image 4 of them are
real. It would take a lot of lifetimes to carefully sort out each one
of these little galaxies manually.
