These are stars from the USNO's B1.0 catalog. (OK, you already knew
that.) The data was presumably gathered via Internet, as described at

http://www.projectpluto.com/update8b.htm#b1_2mass

The quick, general answer to how you'd shut off this data is exactly
the same for _any_ object* that is shown with an undesired limiting magnitude,
or colors, or labels, or at the wrong fields of view, or whatever: you
click on the object, then on Display, and reset the limiting magnitude,
or color, or turn the labels on or off, or reset the fields of view at
which the objects are shown. Or, in this case, maybe just shut them
off completely. (I'd check first to see what limiting magnitude you have
set for them. It may be a totally irrational one. When you click on these
stars, what sort of magnitudes do you see?)

I can't stress this one enough. It's high on the list of things I
wish I'd thought of for Guide 1.0, instead of waiting until partway
through Guide 7.0. The only weakness is that to control a dataset this
way, you have to be able to see it on-screen and click on it. For
example, if you shut off the B1.0 stars, you'll have to use Extras...
Toggle User Datasets to turn them back on.

(Before turning off the B1.0 stars, I'd check to see what
limiting magnitude you have set for them. It may be a totally irrational
one. When you click on these stars, what sort of magnitudes do you see?
Where in the sky are these "stars" located?)

If you click on a B1.0 star and ask for 'more info', Guide will inform
you that the B1.0 downloads accumulate, and will provide an option to
delete the accumulated data. If you got some corrupted data, that
"delete accumulated data" may be a good thing to use.
