Hi Roger,
The key here is having the name of the object entered so that Guide
"wakes up" and realizes that it's numbered object 407. To do that,
the number must be in parentheses. So any of the following:
(407) Arachne
(407)
Arachne (407)
Meaningless (407) Garbage
...would do the trick. (The MPC files always list numbered minor
planets in parentheses, and that's the "usual" source for orbital
elements... so Guide's identification procedure makes use of this.)
Please note that if you just use those orbital elements, plus
the GSC star position given in Guide, your answer probably won't be
very accurate. It's better to make use of the UCAC-2 catalog, as
has been discussed on this list from time to time. I've written up
