Displaying Secondary Time
toadatrix May 24, 2004
I have read the posts on this site concerning the display of two
separate time zones in the screen menu. The second has been referred
to as the "secondary time". How do I get a "secondary time" to
display? I only seem to have one time showing up in the menu at the
lower left of the screen.
Also, I notice that if I compute a total solar eclipse in the distant
future (say 2432) and set the time zone to UTC I seem to get two
conflicting times showing up on the worldmap. If you use the setmark
command to show the region of totality at 5 minute intervals the
times displayed appears to be GMT. The time in the lower left corner
of the worldmap screen is apparently UTC. Also, it seems that if you
right click on a place named on the map the times shown will be UTC
rather that GMT. The GMT and UTC can differ by a sizeable amount so
far in the future. Is this a deltaT or deltaAT problem? Is there
any way to make the setmark command on the worldmap show eclipse
times which match UTC times rather than GMT?
Finally, what is Guide8b doing way out there regarding time? By that
I mean is GMT really UT1 while UTC is atomic time with some assumed
leap second corrections? What times should be showing up in the menu
at the lower left of the worldmap screen, when I right click on a
place name, and when I add times to the map using setmark? Please
explain as I am more than a little confused by this.
