Bill,

It's been called "loneos.phot" on the Lowell FTP server ever since Brian made
it publicly available several years ago. My guess is that you first
downloaded it using a Windows computer, and your computer simply truncated
the name. Non-Microsoft systems don't suffer from the concept of filename
extensions...

I've also noticed that a standard Windows XP install invariably yields an
Internet Explorer that often tries to rename your downloads. To increase your
confusion, Windows then hides the final "." and 3 letters of the actual
filename by default. A problem first introduced with Windows 95a.

To overcome these flaws:

- Right-click the download link, and choose Save target as. Or use something
other than Internet Explorer for web browsing.

- In Windows Explorer, select View (or Tools), Folder Options, untick the
"hide extensions for known file types" box, click Apply, then click Like
Current Folder to make the change system-wide.

cheers,
