Re: [guide-user] My asteroids disappeared

Hi Jean-François,

A couple of points:

The data on the Guide CDs will only provide asteroid data for
a certain time period. Go outside that range, and Guide simply
lacks the data to display asteroids. See

http://www.projectpluto.com/faq_curr.htm#missing_asteroids

Try putting Guide disk #1 into the CD-ROM drive, and see
if asteroids appear. To get asteroids to appear for "current"
dates without needing a CD in the drive, you should use Extras...
Install to Hard Drive, and select "Asteroid Files".

Regarding "which files" you would need: I would recommend
against attempting to copy individual files in a piecemeal
manner. A lot of people do this, and I spend a fair bit of
time trying to fix the results!

Alan's advice is also good, though. It has an advantage
over mine: the files on the Guide CD do not include a lot of
new asteroids and updated orbits for already-known asteroids.
It is hard to go wrong with use of MPCORB for most purposes.
