Hmmmm... hadn't thought about this, but yes, there are situations
where transparent planets/moon would be helpful.

I've revised the planet display dialog so that, if you select "line
figure", Guide will draw the moon or planet in the same outlined manner
as before... but it won't fill in the background; stars, etc. will
shine on through. (I can't think of a situation where one would
want a "line figure" display with background objects blocked out,
but I'm open to thoughts on the matter.)
