DOS install update

paul Jan 6, 2004

update to last...
I found more (different, better?) instructions, they say
"DOS users will also insert the CD, but will then run
INSTALL from the CD. This process is somewhat simpler..."
easy for "you" to say :) |it was simpler for me on my w2k|

I put CD1 in DOS CD drive, I see the install.com file,
I run install, I get:
INSTALL FAILED
Floppy drive ; cd drive d

I think the now_DOS_pc is somewhat standard, with a\floppy,
c\hdd and now d\CDROM pentium 150, MSDOS 6.22
I assume this is some sort of CD hardware / BIOS / DOS
interface issue, as I just cranked up the CD drive earlier
today, and DOS Guide is first test, I don't think the problem
is Guide, and I am open to suggestions. This CDROM used to
work in w95 AOK, and device driver appears correct for DOS.
but this problem is also NOT a total hardware failure as
from CD, I can open the ..\text\startup.mar with text
editor, so that tells me that DOS is reading the data on
the CD, yes? so then install.com is giving DOS an instruction
or pointer (or something) that my system does not understand(?)
by now you should be able to tell I'm not a programmer...
I remain open to suggestions.
