Use the P4-W2k machine, or try Windows Update/Vendor Patching on
the AMD Win98SE machine. Most likely the AMD machine has a Via or
Ali chipset. These 3rd party chipsets from a few years back (K6 &
early K7) can be a headache. Even early AMD chipsets need some
patching. Via has service packs that can address some issues for
thier chipsets. Windows Update can solve some of the "Files not
found" issues.
As for the Meade software side of the equation, they are probably
going with Microsoft's position in that Win98SE has run it's course
and the testing there is probably limited to Intel.
Most software these days is tested/supported primarily with XP and
W2k for a backup.
