Problem here is that you have to right-click on the label. It
sounds to me as if you're clicking on the boundary of the objects
in question?

It actually might not be a bad idea if Guide worked that way...
but at least for the nonce, you do have to click on the label.
And sometimes, you'll find that it's necessary to use "Next"
once or twice before Guide finally latches on to the object
you actually want.
