Thanks Juan,

You got me started on the right track even though my unzipping
program seems to be different than yours.

I don't know if it's normal behavior for an unzipping program, but
mine always unpacks the download from Project Pluto into a folder
called "guide8" even if it has to create it inside the root folder
for Guide (i.e. C:\GUIDE8). The solution was to manually copy all
the files in the folder that was created during unpacking and paste
them into the folder one level up (into C:\GUIDE8).

When asked, I replaced all the files at that level with the same
names with their new versions and now everything works fine.
