<Groan> You are right about this, and I cannot claim that I
didn't know about it. If planets are turned "on", there is no
difficulty. But if they are "auto" or "fixed", then as the moon
approaches the sun, it becomes so faint that Guide no longer shows it.

One workaround for this would be to have Guide add a certain amount
of brightness to the moon to account for earthshine. That is, during
totality, the moon is _not_ totally faint (a "magnitude +infinity"
object!); as was discussed earlier on this list, it is about mag
-3, due to earthshine.

This is not a perfect fix, because if someone showed planets to
mag -5 or brighter, Guide would _still_ say: "The moon is not
bright enough to appear." But it is a partial fix, and it would
also cause the moon to show a more realistic magnitude near new moon.
