Hi William,
Glad to hear you're back in the saddle... though it _would_ be nice
to know why it happened! Do keep an eye open for similar misbehavior;
if you're lucky, you may see something along the lines of, "That's
funny... it misbehaved after I did _that_." Then I might be able to
track a bug down and kill it.
In general, I'd agree with Michael about shutting down anti-virus
software while doing an install. (Many installers suggest you shut
down _everything_ while doing the install, and I've usually done
just that.) But I can't see why such software would cause trouble
for Guide's 'setup' program... very mysterious!
"...I'm happy to do whatever it takes, even face East and bow if
necessary (or North - Redmond is that way)..." Some years ago, I
was working on a program that contained a weird and untraceable bug.
One of my fellow programmers suggested bringing in an exorcist, to
drive the demons out of the code.
