Hmmm... the first thing I would try to do is to run Guide
with the CD-ROM in the drive. It is indeed likely that some
file is missing; putting the first Guide CD-ROM into the drive
will tell you if that is the case. If you suddenly start to
get correct data, then you have a "smoking gun"; Guide is
getting the data from the CD, and can't find it at all without
the CD.
I'd then run Windows Guide (the only version that supports
the idea of installing things to the hard drive in the first
place) and look in Extras... Install to Hard Drive. Odds are
good that the "Tycho-2 (94 MBytes)" option is not checked. So
Guide looks for Tycho-2 data, can't find it, and produces
garbage instead. (Everything except that "produces garbage"
part is to be expected. Guide is supposed to handle the idea
that it may not have access to every file, but it's supposed
to do so in a more graceful manner. In this case, it ought
to just admit that it doesn't have the data!)
