At present, the situation is as Ben has described it: the
mechanical error correction (MEC) system in Guide doesn't work
with the Bartels system, or indeed with anything except
Tangent Instruments-based encoder systems. (And even with
these, it's not at all pleasant to attempt to use it.)

There is indeed some hope for the future here. A while
back, I realized that the way I'd implemented MEC was
unnecessarily complicated; it can actually be done in a
manner that ought to make it much more straightforward
and powerful. But for the moment, I'm afraid we're stuck
with Guide just sending RA/dec data to the scope, with no
corrections applied.
