User manual, etc.

Paul, about the "un-linked" material on the Web pages:
this is missing for several different reasons. A lot of the
material was added after the manuals were printed. Some of
it is really obscure stuff in which maybe one in a hundred users
may take an interest. And some of it reflects the fact that
I wrote the manual and simply overlooked something... in
truth, I should probably throw out the current manual and
start from scratch!

Ben, thanks for the comments on the hotkey errors. That
section was written before I had the current ability in Guide
to alter hotkeys; one nice thing about that function is
that it generates a temporary file listing all hotkeys and
their associated functions. For future manuals, I'll just
copy that in and evade my usual tendency to make mistakes
when compiling such lists by hand.

Ned, the DOS version of Guide ought to have no problems
of that sort. But you might want to make sure you have the
current DOS update (downloadable from the same page on the
Web site where the Windows update is provided; go to the
main page, http://www.projectpluto.com , and then to the
"updated software" link.) If you're using both the DOS and
Windows software, be sure to download _both_ updates; get
only one, and the other one won't work. (Perhaps you've
grabbed only the Windows update? In that case, I'd not
be surprised if the DOS update failed; you would be using
the original DOS software from the CD, but it would be
attempting to handle newer files intended for updated
software.)
