Guide and 'scope.exe'

Bill J Gray Jul 29, 2003

Hi Greg,

There are quite a few people using this system, and it seems
to work well. I believe most, if not all, are using the DOS
version of Guide to control the scope; working through DOS
means you can use an older, simpler laptop, and 'scope.exe'
evades some problems inherent in 32-bit Windows. (Someone
will, I hope, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe 'scope'
assumes it runs in a single-task environment, with 100% of
the CPU time. In 32-bit Windows, one can't tell when the
OS might decide it's time to let some other process do
something; while that something is going on, the scope
would stop tracking.)

As you might expect, maintenance of the DOS version has
not been a high priority over the last few years. I've done so
in part because of requests from 'scope.exe' users and some
other DOS holdouts (there are still many out there!), and
because it requires virtually no effort on my part to do so.
