Re: [guide-user] MG-I/datasets in German and English

Hi Bill,

On June 10, you responded to my inquiry about using Guide with the Mark 1
Micro-Guider. You said:

<<back then, the only thing _TheSky_ supported was the Tangent Instruments
spec, a.k.a. MG-III and JMI/NGC-Max. I'd give it a try in that mode;>>

I asked David Lane whether Micro-Guider I is compatible with Guide. He said:

<<In ECU you should set the telescope type to either Micro-Guider I or JMI
NGC-MAX. In Guide, set it to one of NGC-MAX, Celestron Advanced Astro
Master, Lumicon NGC-Skyvector, etc. I don't have Guide, but it should
support one of these three.>>

Since then, I have confirmed that I can communicate with MG-I from my laptop
(Win98) using "Q" commands through Hyper Terminal. I have *not* been able to
get telescope position to display in *any* planetarium program. I tried ECU
(30-day trial version) and Guide 8.

Our club is about to purchase Micro-Guider 5 and ECU Pro, but because some
folks want to continue using MG-I, we will run the encoder leads through an
A-B switch to allow selecting MG-I or MG-5.

My questions: Does Guide 8 respond to the full repertory of outputs available
from MG-I and/or MG-5? Will Guide display telescope position on its
planetarium screen? Will Guide permit re-synch of telescope position from
MG-1 and/or MG-5?

Thanks for the help.
