Charon stub error, Dias catalog

Bill J Gray Jun 4, 2003

Hi folks,

Sorry for the late replies... I've had a sudden barrage of incoming
e-mails, and am gradually digging my way out.

David, about that Charon error: take a look here:

http://www.projectpluto.com/faq_curr#charon_failure

Easy enough to fix, fortunately. (I do have some fears that
attempting to run a DOS app with an extender might cause trouble
in WinXP, but so far, that doesn't seem to be a problem...)

Bertrand, thanks for the warning on the update of the Dias
open cluster data. In the original, both equatorial and galactic
coordinates and proper motions were provided in the same file.
Now, they've been separated out, and Trumpler types have been
added. I've updated the .TDF accordingly; re-visit

http://www.projectpluto.com/extras.htm#openclus

and you'll be able to re-download the .TDF (and .IDF).

Ross, at present, Guide doesn't understand galactic (or
equatorial) coordinates in TDFs. Actually, there was one
inquiry about perhaps having the TDF system support alt/az
coordinates, too!

As you pointed out, it's moot for the Dias open cluster data;
the revised files just use the RA/dec version.

I do have a long list of TDFs to post, for the XZ80Q zone
catalog (TDF supplied by Oliver Kloes), plus one for the
just-recently-released 77th Name List of newly-designated
variable stars (TDF supplied by John Greaves). John has
also sent me TDFs for other datasets, and I've not done
well in keeping up. Something I hope to remedy in the next
few days.
