Fred says the following on his site

The solar and lunar ephemerides were generated from Newcomb and the Improved Lunar Ephemeris.

He used to use DE200 as bill said.

It is possible to use Guide with any of JPL's DE ephemerides,
including DE-406. I'll write up something about this and post it.
