That's perfectly fine, and is really the best one can do with a
reasonable amount of work. Perhaps you also could add the options of
using only the Gregorian, or only the Julian, calendar for those who
so wishes (of course this behaviour can be emulated by putting the
crossover date very far into the past, or into the future).

Any other calendars than these will have to be converted to the
standard Julian or Gregorian calendar in some other way, by someone
who knows more about the specific situation. This should include the
"Swedish calendar" 1700-1712, as well as New Year occurring on 25
March instead of on 1 Jan in England and the US prior to the switch
to the Gregorian calendar.
