Yes, this would need to be done first.

Again, yes - it would be very useful to slip into a mosaicking mode in
which the screen LX200 arrow keys adopt a different role. To start with
- perhaps if a fixed 80% of CCD dimensions (field of view) was
automatically set.

If I wanted to take (in the simplest case) an image, I would then do so.
Pressing left arrow would then drive east by 80% of the FOV and I could
then take another image. In practice I would probably take two or three
images in each spot. Then another east move until the RA strip was
complete - probably no more than a few moves because of other drift
problems. Then a dec adjustment followed by the reverse RA movement.
This process might continue for perhaps three dec changes within the RA
strip.

Those are my thoughts.

BTW, thanks for the sync information - particularly Bob. I have tried
this (or something similar) previously without success, but will re-try
as many times as it takes!
