Tritton = D/1978 C2

Bill J Gray Feb 12, 2003

Hi Bernd, André,

95P = the asteroid 2060 Chiron. I see that the
referenced page at BDL does indeed refer to Tritton
as 95P, but it ought to refer to it as D/1978 C2.

The "D" means something along the lines of "deleted";
the object was only observed over about one month,
and apparently not seen over further apparitions.
As it happens, I've been playing around a bit with
a method for computing orbital uncertainties, and
tried it out on this object: at present, it could
be anywhere over a long arc about 130 degrees long
and an arcminute or so wide. Recovering it is apt
to happen by accident rather than on purpose!
