Lunar landing sites

Bill J Gray Feb 4, 2003

Hi Arild,

By default, the lunar landing and impact sites are only shown if
you've got _really_ detailed features (zoomed in very far, and/or
the "feature density" set very high.)

To change this, edit the file 'planet10.gaz' (should be in your
Guide directory). The objects are organized in order of importance,
with larger craters followed by medium-size by small ones. The
landing and impact sites are near the end.

Just move the ones in which you are interested to the top of
the file, and they suddenly become "important" enough to be
shown at larger fields of view and/or lower feature densities.

The impact locations of assorted pieces of Apollo hardware
currently have a '#' in front of them, to keep Guide from showing
them at all. Remove that '#, and they'll appear.

Incidentally, from time to time, I've been working on a little
piece of lunar freeware:

http://www.gwi.net/~pluto/moonview

It takes advantage of the large compilations of lunar images from
the Consolidated Lunar Atlases and Lunar Orbiter Photographic
Atlas (said images being freely available on-line). Needs some work,
and I've not had much time for it lately... but it does have some
possibilities, I think.
