USNO-B.1

Andrea Pelloni Jan 8, 2003

Bill, I have downloaded and installed in GUIDE8 the little file that allows
the use of data downloaded from USNO-B.1.0
I installed the USNO-B.1 data of a little area (1 square deg), after
changing the name to the file as you suggest, and i have gone to the
coordinates containing these stars.
Well, on the map there were an incredible number of written magnitudes but
opening the screen more info the values were wrong, e.g. 159.0 instead of
(I suppose) 15.9 (I think that everything is probably due to a displacement
of reading position somewhere at the beginning of the data string).
Having decided that it was useless for me, I decided to eliminate both the
driver and the file containing the data.
But having done it now I have a very strange situation: even if I have (as
was before) checked OFF the Mag Label Limit, all the GSC and some (NOT
all) other stars have the mag on the map, but in the window these ones are
labelled as "USNOA2.0 star", that never happened before.
The even more strange thing is that the "NORMAL" USNOA-2 stars, I mean the
ones that in the window show the R-B-V Mag, have NO mag on the screen.
The last strange thing is that these USNOA2.0 stars are still there after
having delayed the file with their data, even after eliminating the A20.idx
file.
Have I done something wrong?
Had I to make some more change?
If you need I can send you some .jpg file with the evidence of what I'm saying.
Moreover, someone has been more fortunate in this, or other people had the
same problem?
Thank you for your precious help.
