After doing more thinking, I feel that some sort of download into the
telescope control system might work. For instance, a whole series of
time and positions could be sent down the pipe, and a final command to
launch it all off. This would relieve Guide from realtime duties. The
download info might consist of

set time: :SL#
then a series of
set incremental position: :S1#
set time to arrive at the incremented position: :S2#
set position declination: :S3#
set position right ascension: :S4#
end of incremental position: :S5#
and a response of '5' indicating successful receipt of the 3 parameters
then at the appropriate time, some sort of launch command like: :MS#
