Missing IC405/bad ecliptic
Bill J Gray Aug 22, 2002
Arild, I got your STARTUP.MAR, and I think the missing label is
a text collision problem. Go to that level, and a variable star
pops up at the center of IC 405. It gets labelled first, and Guide
isn't bright enough to figure out a good place to put the IC 405
label without partially overwriting the earlier label. So it skips it.
David, I had thought that Bernd's answer would solve the missing
2002 NY40 and Sgr Dwarf problems. It is _perhaps_ possible that
getting the current update of the Guide software from the Web site
will repair the errors. I'd recommend giving that a try.
About the ecliptic: problem here is that Guide draws a J2000
ecliptic. That's usually the right thing to do; all the markings
(ticks, grids, side labels, etc.) default to being J2000. The
bad thing is that you can set everything else to be any epoch you
want, but the epoch for the ecliptic can't be reset through the
user interface.
You _can_ edit STARTUP.MAR in a text editor and look for this line:
25 Marking 5 1 5 1 J2000.000000 ....
Change the 'J2000' to 'B1950', and you'll see the B1950 ecliptic.
Change it to 'D0', and you'll get the ecliptic of date.
Alternatively, you could turn the ecliptic off, then go to Display...
Ticks, Grids, Etc., and turn Grids On (with a large grid spacing.)
Set grids to be in ecliptic coordinates, and change their epoch to D0
(because for grids, you _can_ make all of these settings from the
dialog box inside Guide. No editing of STARTUP.MAR is required.)
