I've had this problem in other software due to clipping bugs in the video
driver - ie the program is drawing lines which should be entirely off the
screen, but the video driver is mistakenly drawing them on the screen. Try
going to the Windows Control Panel "Display" application, click the
"Settings" tab, then the "Advanced" button. That will give you a new dialog
with several tabs. On one of those tabs will be a "Hardware Acceleration"
slider. Try turning it down a notch or two from its maximum setting, and see
if that fixes the problem. ATI video drivers seem especially prone to this
problem.
