I am not familiar with MPC comet or NEO
data although I have successfully downloaded
those files designated for Guide and installed
them AOK. my question is about the files and
data. Eg, I first downloaded soft02cmt.txt on
07apr, and I downloaded it again on 16apr.
at the time I was specifically interested in
Ikeya-Zhang (C/2002 C1) and I noticed that the
elements were the same in both files although
the designation at the end of the string had
changed from MPEC 2002-G08 to MPEC 2002-G38.
what is the significance of that, if any.
I noticed that there were few changes to these
two lists, with most of the changes occurring with
the 5 or 6 comets at the end of the list -- meaning
they are newer(?), therefore, their elements and orbits
require more updating (??)
what is a reasonable update schedule? daily, weekly,
monthly...???
