I have a couple questions about customizing Guide 8 in certain ways:
1) I have RealSky (N and S) written out to a hard drive at d:\share\rs. In
an attempt to point Guide here, I was foiled; so I mapped the above path to
network drive M: (even though the path is on localhost), told Guide about
this, and now Guide grabs up RealSky images without asking me to insert a
CD-Rom. This functionality was the goal, so that's pretty cool. Question:
is this the canonical way to do this or am I missing something really obvious?
2) I have USNO A2.0 written out to the hard drive in d:\share\starcat.
Guide is running from c:\guide. Both of Guide's CD's are written out to and
merged in d:\share\guide and Guide has been pointed there, apparently with
success (I did this a bit before <ahem> I read the relevant parts of the
documentation). My CD-Rom drives are R: and W:. As with RealSky, I'd like
to get A2 stars without being asked for a CD drive. I've mapped the A2 path
to network drive N: in an attempt to out clever things as above, but am
suddenly foiled, not knowing where or how to set the path for A2. I've
looked around in STARTUP.MAR but I am mostly clueless. I've thought about
fooling around with the Guide CD settings (item 18 in SETUP.MAR) or fooling
with Win 2000 file pointers to outsmart things, but I won't be brave enough
for that for at least one more day.
Yes, I admit that I am a maniac! The goal is to allow fast-as-possible
access to A2 and RealSky for a project I'm working on which Bill knows
somewhat about. Any assist is appreciated.
