Johnny. First of all you need to install guide on that laptop and as Bill
suggests get the most current update of guide 7 from his web site and
update your install.
I tried this and it seems to work. I made a separate directory and
installed guide7 into it. It is about 4 B in size. THEN do the minimal
install. Now you can copy all of this over to your laptop.


You can *add* the line 18 with a text editor to that startup.mark file.

You want to copy other files from the Guide disk like the comets and
asteroids into the directory called "guide_cd" or whatever you want to call
it. Remember that Bill said you need only to copy those files that you
want to use. The asteroid file directory need only have the current data
for the next 400 days or so and you can leave the rest out. you need only
the "2452" file for now from the asteroid directory.

You should end up with two directories on you laptop. one with the
installed guide program and its associated files and the other, guide_cd,
with the minimal files in it.

Line 18 tells the guide program where to look for the data you want to use.

Maybe others can comment on what I have said here.
